Key takeaways
- You'll find the import under Activities → Import.
- All you need is the date, the type, a security (by symbol, ISIN or WKN) and two of three of shares, price and amount - everything else is optional.
- German and English column names are recognised; Talantor automatically matches ISIN and WKN to the right security.
- Before you confirm, you see a preview: transactions that already exist are skipped as duplicates, and faulty rows are flagged.
Where do I find the import?
Open the Activities page and click Import at the top right. A window opens into which you drag or select a CSV file. The import is available on every plan.
What format does the file need?
Talantor reads common CSV files very leniently - whether they come from a Talantor export, from Excel or from your broker. ; (default), tab or , are recognised as delimiters; numbers may be in German (1.234,56) or English (1,234.56) format, and dates as YYYY-MM-DD, DD.MM.YYYY or as a combined timestamp (2026-06-19T09:30:00.000Z).
The first row is the header row with the column names. German and English names are recognised, as are common synonyms (e.g. Ticker, Amount / Betrag, Asset Type / Anlageart). Recognised columns include:
| Column | Required? | Example / note |
|---|---|---|
| Date | yes¹ | 2026-05-14 or 14.05.2026 |
| Datetime | yes¹ | Alternative to date + time, e.g. 2026-06-19T09:30:00.000Z |
| Type | yes | Buy, Sell, Dividend, Split (German too: Kauf, Verkauf, Dividende) |
| Symbol / ISIN / WKN | yes² | One is enough: AAPL, US0378331005 or 865985. ISIN and WKN are automatically matched to the right security |
| Shares, Price, Amount | two of them³ | Two of the three are enough - Talantor calculates the third (Price × Shares = Amount) |
| Time | optional | 14:30, if not already part of the datetime |
| Name, Currency, Asset Type | optional | e.g. Apple Inc., USD, Stock or ETF |
| Fee, Tax | optional | 0 if left empty |
| Note | optional | free text |
¹ Either a Date or a Datetime column. ² Symbol, ISIN or WKN - one identifier is enough. ³ For a split, the Ratio replaces the three values (e.g. 2 for 2:1).
Tip: use an export as a template
The easiest way is to create one activity first and download a CSV via Export (from Premium). That file has exactly the right format - you can use it as a template and add your transactions.
How to import, step by step
- Go to Activities and click Import.
- Choose your CSV file or drag it into the window. Talantor detects the delimiter and columns automatically.
- Check the preview: each row shows whether it will be imported, is a duplicate or has an error (with the reason).
- Confirm the import. New securities are created automatically, and your metrics are then recalculated with real market data.
Duplicates & limits
So that nothing is booked twice, Talantor compares every row with your existing activities. If type, security, date, time, shares, price, fee and tax all match, the row counts as a duplicate and is skipped by default - so you can safely repeat the same import.
Your plan's position limit also applies: if the import would create more different securities than your plan allows, the preview shows it. You can always keep adding transactions to existing positions.
Only real data
Talantor invents nothing during the import: every value comes straight from your file. Rows that cannot be matched to a valid security or are incomplete are reported as errors - not guessed.
